Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here!
For the longest time, rivers were where our prehistoric ancestors chose to build and settle civilizations until more recently, when exploration gave way to trade and colonization. They’ve powerfully carved out landscapes while tenderly parting the waters for the stick and paper sailboats of many childhood days; they offer the lure of travel and adventure along with the invitation to slow down time by simply dipping our toes in. Rivers are beginnings and endings, solitude and community, journey and boundary, all at the same time.
There are countless reasons why so many of us find ourselves at the river. If you too, have listened for the river or find yourself so immersed that it’s difficult to dry off on solid land, you’re not alone. Whatever has led you to this moment, I’m so glad you’re here at last. Whether you’ve been upended by the currents of something you’ve felt but couldn’t quite see, find yourself off-course and meandering, or simply need to see the horizon again from the shore, you are so welcome here. Thank you for stopping by and visiting.
I’m a Registered Social Worker, with over ten years of advocacy and mental health work within all sorts of settings, ranging from education and child welfare to healthcare and law enforcement. I’ve seen my fair share of river-crossings as my personal and professional journeys have crisscrossed over time. It’s why I feel drawn to work primarily from trauma-focused, embodied and attachment-focused frameworks, and am trained in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic interventions including EMDR, CBT and DBT. And though my ways of being in and seeing this world are likely different from yours, I’m deeply committed to creating a space where you don’t need to have all the answers, and where you can be your full self. My hope is to meet you wherever you are on your journey and sit in the uncertainty of things with you. Together, we’ll get our bearings to understand where your river is taking you and who it’s calling you to be.
Please explore the other sections of this website, where I describe my approach and what being in a session with me might entail. A safe and trusting connection with your therapist is perhaps one of the best predictors of how effective and meaningful you may find therapy, which is after all, a deeply personal and sensitive experience. I encourage you to take the time to consider what you’re looking for in a therapist – if you’d like to know more or wish to book a session, I’d be delighted to hear from you.
So glad you’re here,
Karishma
